How fast do you guyz download things from the internet? And what connection do you have?

I got cable, and I can download at a MAX of 850KB/sec.

Average is about 450......

Grab Download accelerator http://download.cnet.com/ Last time I checked it was the 3rd most popular download. Its a great tool that (if you can support the bandwidth) can increase your speeds.

I have PacBell DSL (1.5mbps down, 128kbps up) and I download at 150k/sec day or night.

I'm using cable connection, average would be about 350~400kb downstream, and 128k upstream. But it really depends on the server that I'm downloading from, I've seen servers that send at half the 2.5k which is slowr than a 56k modem.

My 33.6k has seen as high as 6k/sec (very rare), usually 3k/sec at the most.

You guys are getting pretty darn good speed for cable. Care to share how much it costs per month?

It's not so much the cost as it is the availability of cable modem. As far as I know, ATT At Home offers the service. But you need to see if it's available in your area for about ~$40 per month. I believe that forty is about the lowest "standard" price for the service.

The reason mine is so fast, I live in a VERY small neighbourhood, and noone else has cable internet near me, so I get the WHOLE network, which is meant to support up to 20 people, all to myself. Holy **** gradius nice d/l speed. MTP your lucky. I think my best was about 500 kbs but you have to remeber all the factors. It all depends the website and what the traffic is like.

Well, according to Getright, I have somehow managed to achieve 12KB/sec for a few hours at a time - and that's on a single 56K modem. I actually timed it once, using the dial-up networking's display of bytes downloading - it was confirmed. Unfortunately, it only did that when I was downloading Linux disc images.
Otherwise, I usually average around 4.85KB/sec.

I sometimes get a download of full 14kbps for a few minutes on my 56K but line is modulated so it's like small isdn.
Ussualy people don't get much more than that with single line.

Hey Gradius, how did you tweak your lan network to get such a fast download. I'm on my school's 10mbit network with a 3com 10/100 nic and i can only get 45 on a good day, right now i'm only getting 17.

Just thought I would mention to people who can get AT&T@Home service that they have a deal going in which you get 6 months of service for 19.95 a month. Basically they want to get you hooked on the cable speed.


BTW I still can't get cable Internet Access, they say maybe by Christmas!

I took a 3COM 905c 10/100 Nic, and in Win98, I just pluged the network cable in. I get ~750k/s and ~15ms ping to places on campus, or in the area, and ~175k/s and ~35ms Ping elsewhere.

I just downloaded a file off fileplanet in L.A. and Got 400k/s, and Im in maryland.

Well, here in Western Australia, we haven't evolved out of the Ice Age yet, so all we have is 10,000 year old phone lines, and nothing else.
I the BEST i'll get on my 56kb modem, is about 5.3/5.4kb a sec
