Missing the point 09-08-2000, 06:23 AM I got cable, and I can download at a MAX of 850KB/sec. Average is about 450...... Entragian ][ 09-08-2000, 07:13 AM Grab Download accelerator http://download.cnet.com/ Last time I checked it was the 3rd most popular download. Its a great tool that (if you can support the bandwidth) can increase your speeds. Ent MadMatt 09-08-2000, 07:31 AM I have PacBell DSL (1.5mbps down, 128kbps up) and I download at 150k/sec day or night. NDC 09-08-2000, 07:36 AM I'm using cable connection, average would be about 350~400kb downstream, and 128k upstream. But it really depends on the server that I'm downloading from, I've seen servers that send at half the 2.5k which is slowr than a 56k modem. gradius 09-08-2000, 07:50 AM http://www.crosswinds.net/~graydeus/ Enuff said - 10Mbit LAN (tweaked by me) [This message has been edited by gradius (edited 09-08-2000).] blind to truth 09-09-2000, 01:00 AM 2 whole whopping k a second http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif (You know, i should be lucky im not on a 9600 baud.) lol. ablang 09-09-2000, 08:40 AM My 33.6k has seen as high as 6k/sec (very rare), usually 3k/sec at the most. You guys are getting pretty darn good speed for cable. Care to share how much it costs per month? kareem 09-09-2000, 09:07 AM For Ablang, It's not so much the cost as it is the availability of cable modem. As far as I know, ATT At Home offers the service. But you need to see if it's available in your area for about ~$40 per month. I believe that forty is about the lowest "standard" price for the service. Missing the point 09-09-2000, 09:22 AM Yeah, I got cable, 39.95 per month, Canadian Dollars. The reason mine is so fast, I live in a VERY small neighbourhood, and noone else has cable internet near me, so I get the WHOLE network, which is meant to support up to 20 people, all to myself. And the good thing is, no one will ever move around here either, because they did not approve that the land is suitable for more buildings. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif GroundZero3 09-09-2000, 09:37 AM Holy **** gradius nice d/l speed. MTP your lucky. I think my best was about 500 kbs but you have to remeber all the factors. It all depends the website and what the traffic is like. By the way i have @home JaYsin [This message has been edited by GroundZero3 (edited 09-09-2000).] NDC 09-09-2000, 09:55 AM I'm overseas on a 2 year business contract in asia, and the cost is equivalent to $29.00 USD monthly. I used to pay $34.99 back home in Cali from Earthlink. AuraEdge 09-09-2000, 11:18 AM Well I just got to the University of maryland.. I got 766k/s off napster Thats...766*8kpbs...6128kpbs Helluvalot better than 5k/s at home EDIT - Got this screenshot http://www.geocities.com/auraedge/T3.jpg [This message has been edited by AuraEdge (edited 09-09-2000).] Jeff7 09-09-2000, 01:19 PM Well, according to Getright, I have somehow managed to achieve 12KB/sec for a few hours at a time - and that's on a single 56K modem. I actually timed it once, using the dial-up networking's display of bytes downloading - it was confirmed. Unfortunately, it only did that when I was downloading Linux disc images. Otherwise, I usually average around 4.85KB/sec. djurom 09-09-2000, 03:55 PM I sometimes get a download of full 14kbps for a few minutes on my 56K but line is modulated so it's like small isdn. Ussualy people don't get much more than that with single line. brandon184 09-09-2000, 05:23 PM My house will hopefully be equipped with VDSL soon. (up to around 50mbps) Purely for business purposes, of course. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif GroundZero3 09-10-2000, 12:22 AM man i just got download accelerator and im so impressed by it! i have been d/ling since early morning with it on different file sizes. its amazing!! JaYsin buk 09-10-2000, 04:58 AM I'm out in the boonies and connect at 14.4, dl about 1.4k on a good day. No cable in area, I can only dream! mike511 09-10-2000, 01:10 PM Hey Gradius, how did you tweak your lan network to get such a fast download. I'm on my school's 10mbit network with a 3com 10/100 nic and i can only get 45 on a good day, right now i'm only getting 17. Thanks, Mike jacobnero8196 09-12-2000, 12:00 AM Just thought I would mention to people who can get AT&T@Home service that they have a deal going in which you get 6 months of service for 19.95 a month. Basically they want to get you hooked on the cable speed. BTW I still can't get cable Internet Access, they say maybe by Christmas! wing7788 09-12-2000, 05:12 AM Geez, I only have 56K access... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/redface.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif AuraEdge 09-12-2000, 07:35 AM I took a 3COM 905c 10/100 Nic, and in Win98, I just pluged the network cable in. I get ~750k/s and ~15ms ping to places on campus, or in the area, and ~175k/s and ~35ms Ping elsewhere. I just downloaded a file off fileplanet in L.A. and Got 400k/s, and Im in maryland.
