I have a Linksys NIC, and my connection keeps 'popping' on and off. I get a pop up message of 'Your network cable has been detached' or something along those lines.

This happens inconsistently, but frequently....I have pulled the card and put in a Netgear NIC to the same affect. I know it isn't the cable or the actual jack, as my Linux box works fine.

Anyone have any thoughts about this?

Athlon 1.0/266 @ 1.0
768 MB cas 3 PC133 ram
SB Live Platinum
Epox 8kta+ mobo
Visiontek Geforce 2 64MB
Linksys NIC

And yes, if I go to Device Manager, it states that the NIC is working properly. The only thing I can think is that there really are IRQ conflicts, as all of the following are on IRQ 11:

Sound Blaster
NIC
some others as well, [at work right now, cannot remember for sure!!]

Any help is greatly appreciated!

If it is and IRQ sharing issue, that'd be strange, since windows 2000 supports it pretty well. You might see if you can change your SBLive! to IRQ 9, it should accept that. It's also possible that you can switch the NIC to IRQ 5, if that's not already taken by a modem if you have one. Have you tried placing the NIC in a different PCI slot on you motherboard?

The only thing I can think of that may help with your IRQ probelm would be to disable PNP OS in the BIOS. In otherwords, let the BIOS manage the IRQ's, not Windows. It ususally works much better. And do a search for Sound Blaster/IRQ problems on this forum as I know I've seen many.

Sounds like you have an intermittant network connection. You might want to try a new LAN line or reterminate the exsting one. Intermittant connections are consistant with long line runs, sharp kinks in solid core CAT 5 that disrupt signal, Cable signal weak.

If your ISP is cable, have you added any TV's via a splitter recently?
