Hi everyone, here is my quesiton...

I have a Asus P2B AGP Mainboard which supports both Pentium2 and Celeron processors. And I have a Pentium II 350 installed on it. And I want to over clock it.

I want to know if it's better to over clock my PII 350 or to buy a celeron processor and over clock it ?

I have scaned my jumper settings from user's manual. Please look at it from this adress :

and tell me my limits. Can I buy a celeron 600 and overclock it to 700 or something higher ? and does it make any difference ? Please, I need to know what I can do to take the best performance.

What are your advises ? Thanks a lot!...

I used to have a 350. In my opinion you should buy the Cel 600 and O/C it. The best I could ever do with my PII 350 was 380mhz. The celeron will O/C a lot better. As far as cache, the Cel will less then you PII 350, but I doubt you'll notice. However, it doesn't look like you bios supports more then a PII 450. Update you bios to see if you can put in a Cel 600.

You can use any of the 100MHz FSB coppermine processors if your mobo is revision 1.12 or higher. So now it's a question of how much you want to spend. For about $100 you can get a 1GHz celeron.

Thats only assuming your bios update will support it.

Suggestions:

Celeron PPGA 333, $25+@ Tiger, good for 500MhHz or more. Will need a slotket adapter w/voltage adjustment.

Celeron FCPPGA (Coppermine) 533, $44+@ Tiger, good for 800MHZ or more. Will need a Slotket II adapter.

Your mileage may vary…

Click on the link I provided. According to Asus, the 1011 bios offers official support for any of the coppermines. You may not even need to flash the BIOS for it to run, but later BIOSes may offer bug fixes and performance improvements.

Whatever CPU you decide to get, be SURE you get a slotket that supports the coppermine processor!
