I would like to know if there is a way to use two modems simultaneously. Currently I cannot get the second modem to stay active. It dials and connects, but after that I get an error. I am trying to use one with PPP and the other with SLIP. Thanks.

You can get two modems together but each one has to be on separate lines (2).
I don't know if there is any emulation to get them both on same line but I don't think that would help much because standard lines can't get more than 60000bps.

What is the error your receiving?

The problem is the PC. I have 2 lines. Either one will connect, but not both at the same time. Do I need VPN or something like that?

What be your OS? Win98 makes using two or more modems a breeze. By using multilink.

It can be done, but the tricky part is working out your IRQ settings. Keep in mine that each modem will need it's own IRQ to run at the same time, that com 1 and com 3 share an IRQ, that com 2 and com 4 share another, and unless you're using a PS2 or a USB mouse, your serial mouse is using one of the above com ports. Ideally you're using a PS2 or USB mouse, and your modems are on com 1 and com 2. That way everything's happy and it will all work at the same time. Now, if one is a Winmodem, there's another variable... Good luck.

Yes, one can use 2 modems simultaneously. I use one to answer my phone and take messages, while I use the other to access the Net and to send faxes. I've often been surfing or faxing while my telephone rings. It's really just a matter of allocation of resources, i.e., IRQs. I've had no difficulty. One is an ISA, the other happens to be a PCI. I suppose if I wanted I could hook up the spare Boca USB I have in my closet as well.

Good luck!

Hey Oldmanx
Seems like I headr that your ISP has to support multilinking for that to work.....just a thought.

As long as you have two isp accounts you can multilink to your isp, if your isp supports modem bonding then that is even better.

I understand that Diamond Supra modems have a model in which your old modem can be used simultaneously with their modem. They call it shotgun technology.

If your old modem has a speed of 56000 bps, and you use this together with that specific Supra modem, they claim that your download speed can reach up to 112,000 bps. Some requirements, though. You should have two telephone lines available, and your ISP should support simultaneous log-ons.
