I have a US Robotics 56K internal (hardware) modem & a US Robotics 56K external serial modem (connected to the UART 16550)....
Which one is better/faster?
I know that they are both the same speed, but wouldn't an internal modem that is connected directly into the mainboard transfer the info faster than the external that has to do it trough a serial cable? Isn't the internal 'more direct' in its comunication?
thanks...

new standard.
I understand that external are "faster" but I have never test it myself. I have read about how you can tweak them more.
but the new v92 is faster up and has some nice features, but you isp will have to have the standard also.

You might just hook them up and test away. Different brands can behave differently. Should be able to have both hooked up at the same time...

Traditionally external modems were normally faster, because internal modems were often software modems and used the computer's CPU to do a lot of the work, while external models normally did all teh dirty work themselves, thus for gaming it often made quite a noticable difference... having said that, I used to use a USR Sportster Voice 56k on my server and a USR Courier 56k for gaming before I got my ISDN and those two externals never seemed to perform quite as well as my brother's Diamond Supra-Express Pro (internal)... note the PRO version - which is an internal HARDWARE modem, whiel apparently the other models at the time didn't have the same level of hardware assistance...
Although I'm tlaking pure downlaod speed here... his oen connected at 52kbps most of the time, 49.3kbps minimum, while my USR modems varied trementdously.. .and yes, this was on the same phone line...
