I amnot sure if this is ok to ask here so my apologies if it is not...
Can anyone here guide me or give me good written directions on overclocking my Dell Dimension XPS R 400....It is a PII 400 mhz prcessor and I have noticed that most overlcockingis done on PIII or AMD's....Can it be done on mine safely?

the processor it self can be overclocked, BUT sisnce you are using an intel based motherboard you have no options. Most of the major brand use intel mobo's with very limited features. Just the basic stuff like boot sequence and thing of that nature. And on any intel board, no matter if its a retail intel board or a knockoff, you CANNOT overclock it. Intel dosent want to RMA any more processors thatn they have to! So basically your stuck. If your lookin for a little extra bost, add another 256mb RAM or a 7200 RPM Harddrive. Thats about all you can do with it. You would probably be better of with the ram anyways. Since the dells come with pretty crapy cooling, you would have to replace the HSF and it would end up costing more than the 256 RAM. And you would notice the ram upgrade way more than the Couple of megahUrts you would get of of the PII

I am running 224 MB of RAM with an extra case fan....I also just added a 40 GB Quantum 5400 Fireball Plus HD as the slave HDD.
