What are the benefits of using the digital out on my SB Live (vs. the regular Line Out)?

The *only* benefit I have noticed so far is the addition of bass/treble options in the windows sound control. Although this *small* feature has helped improve the sound a lot, I figured there were other "improvements".

Are there any?

If your card can output a multichannel signal then you can take advantage of DD/DTS 5.1/6.1 from DVD's and DTS cd's. You will need to use a DD/DTS receiver or separates.

I have a 5.1 channel receiver plugged into the digital out. Will eventually get a DVD player soon, so this is good to know!
