I have a k62+@500mhz for my desktop and a p2-366 for my laptop, so I dont know much about p3 performance. Can you guys tell me which one I should get? The 650 seems enticing but if there isnt much difference between that and the 500mhz except for a $60 difference I'm gonna stick with the 500. thx

I'm guessing you're planning on dropping the P3 into the board you currently have your P2 in. Are you certain that it is able to handle the P3 650 MHz, let alone a P3 at all? What motherboard do you have, btw?
And as far as the difference in performance goes, the performance difference you will see will greatly depend on what you're doing.

it's a compaq board...but there was a rom upgrade that allows the support of p3 processors. they never said up to what speeds, however the cpu is imbedded in little 400 pin socket card. i really dont want to spend money on a new laptop when i can just upgrade the cpu. I want faster crunching of programs like office2k, photoshop. I will eventually replace the harddisk and stick in a bigger hd perhaps a faster one too, but for now i think the cpu is a drawback.
