I have a Compaq Presario 2266 with a Cyrix MX chip running at 225mz. How can I find out what faster processor (AMDk6-2?) is compatible? I don't want to buy a new system just yet. I know my motherboard specs too, how do I find out what my max upgrade is?

These are all the motherboard specs I know-
BIOS Manufacturer: PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0 ACPI Rel
BIOS ID: Unknown
BIOS ROM Size: 256K
Chipset: SiS5597 rev 16
Super I/O Chip: ITE 8661/SiS 6801 found at port 279h

First off you need to open your case and take a look at your mobo. You should see to jumper settings somewhere near the cpu (sometimes though, they are on the other side of the mobo). One should say something about jumpers or say something like 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4 ect... The other one should say something about FSB, or say something like 50Mhz, 60Mhz, 66Mhz ect... Those two tell you partly of how fast a CPU your mobo will allow. I'll try to find you some specs for your mobo now.

Go Here (http://www3.compaq.com/support/parts/) and put your PC's serial number in. It should tell you more about what is in your PC (most inportantly what your mobo's name is). After your done come back here and tell us your mobo's name, and we'll try to do some research on it! Or hopefully they will tell you it's max speed at the site!

Couldn't find the 2266 on Compaq's site, but I've had a Presario 2200. If it's the same series it's not upgradable. Is that definately a Cyrix MX cpu, or is it a Cyrix Media GX??

The MediaGX was one weird critter, all by itself. Nothing else will work in that socket. Didn't run all that bad, though.
