Hi all,

Just a question about CD copying.

I can copy bits of data (e.g. MP3's) to CD's fine, but I haven't yet managed to do an exact copy of one data CD to another. The copied CD will not install properly, unlike the master copy.

I have tried lowering the write speed to 8x, but to no avail. I have a HP 12x8x32 CD burner - are they ****e?

Otherwise is there any advice anyone could give? Are there any CD burning tweak guides out there ? - its all new to me.

thanks in advance,

MArk30;)

It's quite possible the CD to CD you're trying to copy is "Copy-Protected" and that's why the installation isn't working although the copy process completed. What CD is it you're trying to copy?

Yo, as NDC says, many cds today, particularly games and music have copy protection. To copy these types, you should use a program called CLONECD- it does a "raw" copy. Try the shareware before you buy.

Hello mark30

What are you using for software to make your copies with?

Try using only the burner to make an image.

Insert the original CD into the burner and select copy.

For the destination also select the burner.

When it is done writing to image it will ask you to insert a blank CD to burn to!

Check http://www.gamecopyworld.com on some info.

And use CloneCD to make copies, use only the burner, as Speedo suggested. If it still doesn't work, then your burner can't write "hidden" protected tracks.

Nero Burning ROM works very well for burning "backup" copies of software you already own.....It can be configured to ignore certain errors that can occur during the burning process....I have also been told that the burner may have a "chip" in it that can prevent you from making a copy from one CD ROM straight to the Burner....You may have to use your HD to increase reliability.

Can't you just create a CD image and then make a CD from it?

That's interesting Mr. Goodbytes....I am not sure...

If the copy protection is an oversized bogus file won't it try to make the same file in the image?

What you can't copy doing a CD to CD, you cannot copy by making an image of the file...

never mind NDC....It was too early for me...I had to re read your post then I understood...

Apart from the "hidden" and oversize bogus files, a deliberate defect is burnt on these protected CDs. When you attempt to copy them, the reading process gets "stuck" at this point.

The raw writers I mentioned earlier, like clonecd, make an exact duplicate of the cd, warts and all. Yeah, and if you can't copy a CD you can't make an image of it. Not much protection if you could.

Hi. Have you tried defraging your hard drive? If not, defrag the hard drive and try again.
I'll probably jinx myself , but about the only time I make a coaster is if I've burned over 5 different CD's and not defraged.
I always make a backup copy of whatever software I buy and this is legal.
Try burning at 2X and see if that along with the defragging works.

Good Luck!!!

I would definitely reccomend clone cd.. I have used it numerous times to copy a backup copy of games for everyday use so the original doesn't get scratched all to heck by the kids... Also there are programs out there so you can find out what type of copy protection is on the CD and what programs will 'bust' it so you can copy the CD.. Another program that burns copyrighted cd's pretty well is Perfect Copy 2000.

I know this is off topic, but shahani, what's with posting a drawing of the Hindu god Ganesh? No disrespect, but I was just curious why you put it up.

*edit*

:)Reply to Az Kidd 69

Hi,

Where can I get a copy of Clone CD or Perfect copy 2000
as you mentioned in your reply.
Do you have a web site address. Which software would you say is the best of the two.

Look forward to your reply.
