I use the Tekram DC-390 and it works great.

I use the Symbios Logic no. 20403.

They work fine for me. SCSI-2 50 pin.

Have three in service, well have three anyway.

What are you driving with them, If it's nothing too intensive, say a scanner, why not get something CHEAP, say $12.00 ? ->>

About 2 years ago, I bought the Tekram DC-390F because it was about 1/2 the price of the Adaptec. It was about $84 for my SCSI CD-R. This card has the same capabilities as the more expensive Adaptec 2940-UW. I haven't regretted it.

SCSI Card: Tekram DC-390F (PCI), 40MB/s data transfer rate, 15 devices max, ultra-wide, flash bios.

One of the PC's at work has Tekram SCSI Adapters for CDRW, CDROM and scanner and it works fine, as for reliability and performance for SCSI hard drives, I have no idea. But low-end SCSI cards are more than suitable for devices other than hard drive.

All systems that we have at work with SCSI drives use Adapatec SCSI cards. I personally use an Adaptec 29160N card for my SCSI 18.4GB Ultra160 10,000rpm hard drive at home on my system and it has been very fast & reliable. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Will a scanner run faster on a SCSI Ultra 160 than a SCSI card that does 20MB/s?

Nope, Ultra160 SCSI cards are for Ultra160 hard disks. You will see no differences for scanner speeds even if you put it on a Ultra160 Adapter. That is why it's a waste to buy high-end SCSI cards for scanners, CDROM's, or CDRW's or external drives such as SCSI Zip, SCSI ORB, etc. But if you had a Ultra160 SCSI hard drive, you'd have to use an ultra160 SCSI Adapter to take advantage of the Ultra160 hard drive.
