is there a noticable difference when using pc133 ram as oposed to pc100? I am using a 700 mhz t-bird with 160 mb of pc 100, I'm thinking of switching to 128 mb of pc133, will I see better performance? ty

The performance difference between PC100 and PC133 is about 5-6%. If you are running high-quality PC100 at a high speed vs. slower PC133 RAM, the difference can be only 2-3%.

First of all, go into the BIOS and check your RAM timing. (YOu should have an option that gives an option of '2' or '3' for SDRAM CAS Latency.

Move this option to '2' if it isn't set there and see if the computer boots and runs properly.

Your CAS Latency refers to the time necessary for RAM to charge and respond to a processor request for data. CAS 2 is faster than CAS 3.

If you can run your PC100 @ CAS-2, you've probably gained most of the speed benefit you'd see from moving to PC133 (unless your planning to spend a lot of money for very good PC133 RAM).

To be honesty with ya, I haven't seen any noticeable differences, but if you're going to bulid a new system, might as well get PC-133 due to the small price difference.
