I know this has been discussed before, but it's been a while.
What's the best/fastest for dial-up alternative to ol Nappy ?
Have some friends at Auburn who've asked me to ask:)
thanx

Yup. Morpheus, Audiogalaxy Satellite, Bearshare, Limewire are all good. You can get them all at CNET Downloads (http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10000.html?tag=stbc.gp).

I hate bearshare.... lets people d/l whatever kind of files they want. Morpheus is nice, as is Audiogalaxy once you remove its spyware. I'm thinking of trying WinMX too. My friend Kate said it holds the answers to all life's problems. (well, music ones anyway)

I like Kazaa, for fast downloads, relatively wide database, and However, there is the problem of spyware. Its packed with..I think 6 spyware components, and you cant remove 4 of them or else it wont work, ones from "Cydoor".
My firewall hasnt caught it trying to phone home yet.
Does Morpheus have spyware too?

Kazaa is the only one where I have d/l virus infected files.
I like Morpheus and Audiogalixy. Morpheus has a really user friendly GUI,
I have never found anything I was looking for on edonkey.. ,,
(tee hee felt like an *** for trying)

I have been using Kazaa for about 3 weeks. I think that I will be changing back to Morpheous tomorrow.
Thanks for the heads up on the virus deal and the spyware. I figured all of them contained spyware but since Morpheous does not, well that is the one I am going with.

Im switching too :)
.....
I just donwloaded it (at least half the links are dead, I think the 3rd or 4th one works at dl.com)
And installed it...
It's the EXACT same interface as Kazaa
Icon's arent a cool lime green...yet I find myself not caring about that too much.
Just did an Ad-aware before and after the install. No Spyware detected.
And its exactly the same as Kazaa..interface, installer, options, everything
And its a smaller install file.
Easiest switch I ever did.

Morpheus and Kazaa servers are compatible actually. If you look at the users you are downloading from or sharing with, you will notice some say @musiccity.com (Morpheus) and others say @Kazaa.com.

Anyone use IMESH (http://www.IMESH.com)?
Have been using it for awhile and have found every MP3 I needed.

The only two "post-Napster" programs I've used are Audioalaxy and Kazaa. My experiences with the two:
Audiogalaxy was great at first, but the interface is not as straightforward as Napster. Once you got past that, though, it was great. I found every little thing I searched for. Now, a few months later, I have been unable to log on at all, due to "high server loads". It was bound to happen, I guess.
Kazaa, I think, has a better interface, and I've had no problems connecting. I have, however, had problems finding certain songs, and I'm not looking for anything *too* obscure. I realize it all depends on what other users are sharing, but so far it's got nothing on Napster or Audiogalaxy as far as available downloads. It stands to reason that the more "mature" and widespread it becomes, the more that will be available, but at that point, it's liable to become too bogged down to use dependably (like Audiogalaxy).

I did use Imesh last year... I don't know what it was but I just didn't like it as much as I like Morpheus... I would sometimes have problems connecting with Imesh.. Been using Morpheus for a while now..

I haven't had any problems with Imesh so far. The download times are awsome! I can find just about any MP3 as well. ;)

I don't know about those other programs mentioned, after Napster I downloaded WinMX & have been using it since...
It works nicely for not only MP3's but all kind of images & files...it resumes downloads & some other cool things also.
you can get it at : www.winmx.com

I would recommend morpheus because of the wider range of users.
Most files on it r not available on imesh or limewire.
BTW, can anyone tell me what is spyware?

Spyware varies, mostly it keeps track of your surfing habits then the software mfg sells them to folks who in turn spam you or have specialized pop-ups or ads tailored to your tastes.

AudioGalaxy is the way to go if you have no desire to have any control over what you are doing, you can find just about everything you want on this site, but cancelling a download is even a hassle. WinMX is the best solution now that we are all Napster-Less. It's basically Napster with a different face, and you can search for Pics and Video too!

One other thing, I don't know how anybody can even be bothered to use anything based on Gnutella technology, like really, get a life, i like to search for my mp3 and have it downloaded before the is even finished, these programs like Bearshare and Limewire take you longer to just find results (not that you will ever find anything you are looking for) than it would to walk to the nearest music store, buy the CD, and walk back home, with your shoelaces tied together. If anyone out there still has an internet connection where they pay by the hour, you could buy a whole lot of CD's for the price you'll pay just FINDING any music on these programs.

And Finally, what on earth is the difference between Kazaa and Morpheus, not only are they the most unstable programs under Win2000 i've ever used, but they look exactly the same, their buttons are exactly the same, their startup screen is almost identical except for the name! It's like if I took MS Windows and stuck a new logo on it saying DOORS, they are twins as far as i can see, and when the programs are free, what is the point? There is no money too be made because you don't have any fools buying 2 copies of the same program under different names, just fools downloading them.

CR, I have noticed it just depends on when you're online and lookin, I sometimes find really kewl stuff I think is rather obscure, and at others I don't find something I was sure would be there.
It's been that way with Audiogalaxy for me too. Thats why I use both. What do you use CrazyRay?
