Looking for a firware upgrade for a Toshiba smd1102 dvdrom drive. Toshiba's site leaves a bit to be desired. Anyone know of a good site to look for this?

Hmmmm, If the site for the manufacturer of the DVD player you have doesn't have the firmware update..... There may not be a firmware update available. Are you sure there is an update available?

I have the Toshiba 12x(1402 I believe). I'm not sure you will gain anything from an update(I don't think most of the new recordable format discs would be readable), and you might lose the region free ware of early roms.

I'm having a problem with homeworld cataclysm in that the copy protection does not recognize the disk as being in the drive. This is a purchased legal copy of the game, and others are having the same problem. They have solved it by changing cdrom drives, and in some cases, upgrading the firmware on the existing drives. Until they fix things via a patch, thats my options. I don't believe I should have to change hardware due to a companys overzelous use of copy protection that inhibits legal users. Oh, the game installs fine, it just cant get past the cd detection part when trying to launch.

I upgraded it, but it didn't solve the problem. Oh well. Thanks Brendan

I just searched for my drive model on infoseek, and then searched within the results for forimware.

Got a new firmware, and now I can play my U.S. region DVDs. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
