Hello,

What type Of mouse do ya got? ps2 or seiral?
Is your DSL modem Internal or external.

If your mouse is a Seiral and your dsl modem is external and runs on a seiral port it may be conflicting with your mouse try a ps2 Mouse or anther type of dsl modem.

Oh and,
welcome to sysopt!

My mouse has a mind of its own when I'm online. My entire system seems to have forgotten how to multi-task as well.

I have DSL service from Citizens (Citlink) Comm.
I'm on Win 98SE and have the latest(5.05)IE.

I keep the temp file cleaned out, my mouse is clean, all drivers are the latest (I think).

But I have no control over my cursor and there is a definite lag in command/response.

Please advise.

Thanks for the welcome !

Its a Logitech PS-2(Trackman) and I have a 'recent' (3 months old) copy of the drivers.

The modem is ADSL 3Com internal.

When this happens (always) multi-tasking ceases to exist.

When you say it had a mind of its own when multi-tasking, do you mean that the mouse will move around by itself? Or do you mean that the mouse movement is delayed to the point where it looks like it skipping?

The delay may be due to many reasons:

(1) The program that you are multi-tasking utilizes CPU heavily.

(2) Heavy access to hard disk to page file due to lack of memory.

(3) There may be a hardware conflict

(4) Windows may need to be reinstalled.

This list can go on and on.......

I've had that experience also when I used to run Win98 and I had 384MB RAM. So it couldn't have been the lack of memory that caused it. I ended up re-installing Win98 and that solved the problem.

Win98 Kernel just doesn't do such a great job multi-tasking compared to Win NT or 2000 from my experience. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
