I just ran across some information I'd never heard/read before:
http://www.maxtor.com/technology/technotes/21007.html
If I read this correctly, Maxtor drives are shipped with the seek speed slowed down in order to reduce acoustic noise. By running their AMSET utility you can disable or reduce the "Acoustice Management" and increase the speed. I'm just curious if anyone has ever tried this to see how big a difference it makes. Any benchmarks? Do other manufacturers also do this?
Thanks for your replies http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
