A friend asked me to help with his laptop. It keeps saying 'gdi.exe is missing. Please reinstall windows.' I tried copying gdi.exe from the windows 95 cd but it didn't help. Is there a way to fix the registry? Will that help? Can someone tell me the dos command to repair/restore the registry?
BTW, the laptop doesn't have a cd rom drive, so reinstalling windows is going to be tricky.

Ouch and good luck:

Err Msg: Error Loading GDI.EXE. You Must Reinstall Windows (http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q146904)

I'm not sure about Win95, but I know Win98 will re-install over the old one leaving in tact everything you had on your machine. I guess you can say it refreshes the files.

If it is a GDI.exe error, I think you can't do nothing about it except of course... Reinstall Windows.!
