[This message has been edited by Missing the point (edited 09-05-2000).] brandon184 09-05-2000, 06:24 PM Please wait while I start up my pro-dell engines and I'll edit in a good setup from Dell. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif <EDIT> Alright... I've got a nice setup here for $989. Its a custom Dell Dimension L Series. - Pentium III Processor at 733Mhz - 64MB SDRAM - 10GB 7200RPM Hard Drive - 15" E550 Monitor - 1 Yr Parts & Labour Warranty - Microsoft Millenium Edition (Win98 Optional) - Microsoft Works Suite - 48X Max Variable CD-Rom Drive - 1.44Mb Floppy Drive - harman/kardon Speaker System - V.90/56K Data/Fax Modem - Norton Antivirus 2000 You also get a free Lexmark Z32 printer.. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif - Brandon [This message has been edited by brandon184 (edited 09-05-2000).] Warthog 09-05-2000, 06:42 PM I don't think Dell can beat that home grown system. Sure, you could go the "L Series" route, but I've had that and I didn't like it. ONE 5 1/4" expansion. THAT sucks. I had an onboard video card. I just got a "4100 Series" comp. It kicks bootay. BUT it cost $2100 http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. Just a little over BTT's budget http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. Warthog blind to truth 09-05-2000, 06:48 PM thanks guys. I dont think i'll get a Dell thanks for helping though, i have one and its not compatible friendly. Oh and ive got a 21" monitor. (only cost me $4) alondra 09-05-2000, 06:52 PM my box super case $53.00 soyo mobo amd k6-2 450 mhz $156.00 8 gig HD 40x CD 64 meg ram had KB,monitor,3 1/2 floppy, total cost under $500.00 most bought on the net. for under a grand you should be able to build a GREAT machine. jad1097 09-05-2000, 07:04 PM It looks like you have a couple of months to decide. Do you want to build this yourself or buy one built? What are you going to use it for, gaming, internet? Do you need a bunch of hard drive space, like for MP3's? 2 hdds? CDRW & DVD? brandon184 09-05-2000, 07:11 PM Why no Dell? Why no Dell? Why no Dell!? Warthog... YOU! YOU RUINED IT! LMAO.. j/k. [This message has been edited by brandon184 (edited 09-05-2000).] brandon184 09-05-2000, 08:01 PM Warthog, Warthog... Dell has a solution for everybody! Here we go BTT. Even better than the L Series I suggested. And a BETTER PRICE! GOD, I FEEL LIKE A MIRACLE WORKER. Custom Dell 4100 Series - $969 ----------------------- - Pentium III Processor 800Mhz - 10GB 7200RPM Hard Drive - 64MB 133Mhz SDRAM - 1 Yr Parts & Labour Warranty - Windows Millenium - MS Works Suite with MS Money 2000 - 32MB nVidia TNT2 M64 AGP Graphics Card - 48X Max Variable CD-Rom Drive - 3.5" Floppy Drive - Sound Blaster 64V Sound Card with MusicMatch - Altec Lansing ACS-340 Speakers with Subwoofer - V.90/56K Modem - Norton AntiVirus 2000 And, a free Lexmark Z32 Printer! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Missing the point 09-05-2000, 08:04 PM I still like mine better, its got 128 megs of ram, a GeForce DDR Video card, and it has double the HD space http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif hehe http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif brandon184 09-05-2000, 08:06 PM MTP.. You should know better than this. I'LL BE BACK. jad1097 09-05-2000, 08:06 PM Now that is a strange double post????? [This message has been edited by jad1097 (edited 09-05-2000).] ArcAngel 09-05-2000, 08:08 PM Ok, Blind to Truth, You say you have a 21'' monitor already, which is great, what else do you currently have in your system, could dramatically decrease the cost of your system if you upgrade ( If you currently have good stuff).... List your current setup so that we can tell you what to eliminate.... brandon184 09-05-2000, 08:19 PM Well, I've had a look around and come to the conclusions... - 64MB should be enough for most computing needs. An upgrade when memory prices are lower is possible. - An *16MB* video card is sufficient for everyday needs, and is even pretty good for gaming. - A 20GBhd could be put in, instead of the 10 gigger, moving the price from $969 to $1050. [This message has been edited by brandon184 (edited 09-05-2000).] brandon184 09-05-2000, 08:19 PM Whats with my double posting lately? I'll have to work on that problem. [This message has been edited by brandon184 (edited 09-05-2000).] Win_98 09-05-2000, 08:39 PM The cheapest way to upgrade would be to replace mb and cpu, additional ram, harddrive. brandon184 09-05-2000, 08:47 PM Win_98.. Then what would be the point? Your suggestions are pretty much the same as ours. You are just suggestion that he keeps his case. Warthog 09-06-2000, 06:54 PM hahaha!! Good job, Brandon! BUT I do have to sorta disagree with you http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif. I think 64mb RAM is JUST BARELY enough for today's stuff. My dad's comp has that much. I just ordered 64 more for his Christmas present while the price is right. He does some minor photo stuff w/Photo Impact and it really puts along. Warthog brandon184 09-06-2000, 07:05 PM I've seen 64mb doubled to 128mb and tripled to 192. It will speed things up, as you said. But it won't make your machine blazing fast at anything.
