Hi
Have just built new system:
Duron 850, PC Chips M810LMR with 64Mb o/b video, o/b snd, o/b LAN, o/b modem, 256Mb RAM. 3gb HDD & Win98SE.

Can anyone please tell me why I can't use the screensavers included in W98 - seems to be just 3D flowers, text, maze etc - but can use the ones with the desktop themes? The PC freezes & there is an invalid page fault in "not known....".

I have checked Direct X & there are no conflicts on the system.

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers,
Kagey

Sounds like you're having problems with the OpenGL screensavers. Have you tried installing the latest i810 drivers?

I assume you mean video drivers?
I tried to find them on the PC Chips site but there are none. Any idea where else to look? I'm not quite sure what you mean ...

Here (http://www.pcchips.com.tw/driver.html) you'll find all the drivers for PC-Chips mobos, take the appropriate one for you.
As for OpenGL problems, be sure you have file named "opengl32.dll" in you Windows/System directory (should be there by default).

Best Regards ...

The driver disk which came with the mobo is ver 7.80B, which would appear to be later than those on the site.
The PC appears to be ok apart from this niggle ......
Any more ideas??

Invalid page fault usually indicates bad memory (RAM or Virtual). It happens when information is written to memory and then read to be different than what it should be.

You might want to try shutting down and reseating your RAM.

If that doesn't work then try removing all but one stick of RAM and retry. Alternate a single stick of RAM to see if the error follows a particular stick of memory.

You could also try running a scandisk and clearing temporary internet files.

If there's still a problem then run a thorough scandisk to check for HDD surface errors.

I've updated drivers, I have the OpenGL file in the right place, I've checked the RAM etc & run out of ideas!
Everything else seems to be ok.
Please will someone put me out of my misery?

with all hope fading..... thanks to all
