I have been having a problem with my monitor resolution. The problem is that every time the monitor goes to standby the res changes from whatever setting on of the users at the computers is using (800x600 or 1024x768) to 600x800. It has a bad tendency to kick either the driver for the monitor or the driver for the vid card at random making the only res 600x800 in a glorious 256 colors.

The computer itself is a Compaq =( . The OS is windows 98. The monitor itself im not sure about, we bought it after the computer was shipped to us and the monitor had some sort of magnetic damage to the screen. The vid card is a Trident.

I really have no earthly idea why it is doing this. I am hoping that someone has either had this problem or might have some clue what I can do to stop this.

Thanks in advance for any help. =)

Don't have an answer for you, but look in your control panel/display settings/screensaver. Click on your power setting button and check power setting. My settings are "always on" system standby "never". Turn off monitor 3 min. Turn off hard drive 30 min. Seems like your sytem doesn't recognize monitor after shutdown.
I'm working with Win 98.

Windows defaults standby prompts to lower resolutions via the VGA.SYS driver. This is a saftey feature that helps in troubleshooting laptop display problems. Especially important for laptops that have the ability to connect to an external monitor.

(i.e. screen is blank. I hit the sleep button and for a moment I can see it is going into stand by)
