I just sent back 2 failed semi/new drives---an IBM Deskstar 20g 7200/100 and a WD Caviar 40g 7200/100 relatively new (within 6 months of purchase) both manufacturers asked little before the go was given to return---I replaced both drives and all seems to be well as far as the system goes, have you had any problems RMA-ing a part, hdd or otherwise and if so what was the situation???

I was trying to return a mobo with bad usb ports. I called the vendor and explained what happened, what I had done, and what I was wanting from him.

The problems started with a new build for a friend - FIC AZ11 and 800 Tbird. His usb scanner would not work and windows gave an error msg about not enough power to run the item. Popped open the case and found a 235w PS! We upgraded to a 400W ps and still same problems.

Well the guy I talked to wanted me to go through everything over the phone - again! I had to take his compter apart 5 or 6 times pulling all cards, memory, reseat the cpu - anything he could think of before he figured he'd let us return it! It was such a hassle for my friend who is a parapalegic. Ended up getting a partial refund and getting a different mobo and processor from another place!

Then 3 weeks later I got to rebuild his computer for the 3rd time - he's got a rediculus setup - but he needs everything he's got. Good thing he's a friend or he'd be buyin me a lot more meals!

Good: Every time I've had maxtor problems, they were completely hassle free! I call them, explain what the problem is and they send me a drive and I send the bad one back in the same box! Great service!

The only part I've Ever RMA'd was a Zoom 33.6 Modem, it was struck by lightning, when I told them this they said it wasn't under warrenty, (Act of GOD) then I told them it wasn't even recognized as a COM port, they said Oh that is, what's the serial number, they replaced it and paid for all shipping costs, right to my door. If I ever have to buy another modem it will be from them, but seeing how I'm on Highspeed Sat. I have no need.

Kingof pain. Out of morbid curiosity, what was wrong with that WD drive? I had the exact same model and had it fail from their famous "click of death" 2 weeks after I installed it. I was so P/Oed with all the data I lost that I never bothered to return it. He he, I use it as a paperweight now.

My ASUS mobo was "accidentally" broken by me. I had no problems, they got me great service.

My Maxtor HD was also lucky. After it started making weird noise they got me a new one. (they even provide you w/packing supplies)

Maxtor, I had 2 fail. One was an out of box failure (OBF) One tried to work.. They were great.. Only probem was they replaced a 30 gig with a 60gig on one of them :D (they were out of 30 gigs and have a next day type of replacement policy)

Oh and kingston, I have a new stick on the way! no problems.

Guess I don't need to say I will always try to purchase those brands in the future because of their excellent customer care.

www.Motherboards.com - Need I write more? I will though, just to get it somewhat off my chest.

During March 2001, I ordered approximately $750 worth of components, including a Iwill mobo and CPU. A nub on the socket broke, "no problem," RMA department told me. "Here's your RMA number." Understand, Iwill USA had given me an RMA already, but I needed a board and CPU within 1 or 2 days. Mobo.com didn't have the mobo/CPU in stock that I needed but another company did. "No problem, we'll credit your credit card account." I returned two of the mobo.com components and ordered what I needed from another company that delivered next day.

I emailed, wrote two letters (Return Receipt Requested): nothing till after a couple follow up telephone calls. "You didn't receive our email? Hmm." remarked the manager / owner of this crooked outfit. "Send me the letter again, and I'll look into it immediately. Our previous RMA employee is no longer with us and that department is a mess." I faxed all correspondence to mobo.com on July 22, 2001: still nothing. This was the third time I had sent the correspondence.

After this experience (I'm out roughly $480), I was referred to the Reseller Review list by a member here. Yep. Mobo.com is one of the most (if not the most) complained about Net vendor on the list.

Ouch. I'll likely never see the money, though I think I could find a lawyer who might do me a professional courtesy and sue mobo.com for fraudulent trade practices. Mobo.com is in LA. I'm in MA. But, arguably, as I think about it, they do solicit business wherever their Website can be used to make purchases. So, a "long arm" statute may provide me with jurisdiction to sue them in my own state.

Terrible company. Be careful.

My PT770 Viewsonic monitor went bad 2 years 8 months into its 3 year warranty (power save mode stopped reactivating).

They suggested (I didn't even ask) that a crossship take place. I sent in the bad and a new replacement was recieved in 3 days. The replacement had a new set of cables, manuals, and even a mac adaptor that the origional didn't have.

5 years later and it's still the same monitor I'm looking at now.

A couple of months ago I made an order from millisec.com and received a heatsink/fan with the fan broken. I turn around e-mail them and end up sending it in for a replacement. Three weeks pass and no sign of my fan.

I make a second order and upon arrival some cables where missing. So I fire off another e-mail telling them about the missing items and asking them if they had shipped my fan replacement. They say "Sorry we will ship the cables and the fan out Monday" and they give me a $10 discount on my next order.

So the following Tuesday I decide to use the discount and make another order. As it turns out they didn't ship my items Monday as they said, they shipped them on Wednesday with my most recent order. Anyway I receive my order but instead of the fan what they give me? A heatsink! I gave up. :(

>Aaron_J Yep it did the exact thing you experienced, it would work for a few hours then hard lock---upon locking it would click and spin up repeatedly...

Dell replaced my mb just a few weeks before it would have been out of warranty.

Iomega has replaced two Zip drives and a Ditto tape drive.

USR replaced a modem (from a surge) even though it wasn't technically their problem.

Got a bad CPU off eBay and got quick exchange.

Guess I've been pretty lucky. :)

I had a 40gig IBM that broke, sent it in, got nothing for 3 months, called them, and they just sent me a brand new 60gb 60gxp. i would have preffered the 40 gig three months earlier, but at least i have a little extra space now.

My first PC was a Packard Bell. The CD-ROM was DOA. They had it replaced locally, promptly and at no charge. (I guess I was lucky...)

I bought a RICOH CDRW to fit the oddball internal dimensions of said Packard Bell. It was purchased from a reseller in California. It died within 3 months. I returned it and a "refurbished" unit was sent to me. DOA. I returned it, and after an extended wait, I received what appeared to be the original unit "repaired". Lasted almost 6 months before going down again. At this point, my warranty was almost (within days) up and my patience was gone. I waited until the warranty was up, phoned VISA and told them my story. They cut me a check for the amount I paid for the RICOH. I bought a Yamaha, put it in my (new) Sony VAIO and all has been lovely since.

I now buy ALL electronics with an American Express Blue card. Same extended warranty as VISA without exclusions for car audio items. (VISA refused a claim for a dead CD changer because they exclude anything that goes in or on a car.)

Linksys 1 port router. rma'd it after calling several times for the proper form. needless to say i was using a patch cable instead of a crossover cable..... my bad. lol

two asus boards. a cuv4x and my p3bf which i personally killed although it was a freak shock. they kept both for a while but got new replacements no problem.

bought a scanner for a friend for her b-day. it just broke and they replaced it as well. forget the brand.
so i would say ive had good luck with rma's so far....

*fingers crossed*

RMA'ed a BF6 w/ bad PS/2 ports
Came back a month later, working.
Success, except for the delay.
