Hey Burnin' Buddies!
Can someone help this newbie with buffer underrun errors when burning MP3's to audio cd? I am using Sony CD Extreme software (Nero dosn't see CDRW drive) that came with drive. I use the test and burn method to save CD-R's (generic). Its annoying, usually is ok if I reduce burn speed to 8x or 4x. Its capable of 12x. Already got the patch and updated drivers.
System is as follows:
750 T-Bird, 512megs ram, 27 gig Fujitsu 5400rpm HD, MSI K7 Pro 2a MB. CD and CDRW are on same IDE, HD is alone. Win 2K OS
Any help would be great!! Thanks!! God Bless USA!!
Perhaps the mp3s won't get converted into wav fast enough when using 12x... 4x takes 18minutes to burn a cd... so 12x takes 6minutes... With my computer 6minutes is about the time it takes to convert 55minutes of mp3 into wav.
You might want to try converting them into wav before burning.

I had the same problem. Only when burning audio CDs Win2k would take too long when closing the session and then fail the burn. When I lower the burn speed it works. It would never do the same with Data CDs. Data CDs would always be fine at full speed. (The problem would always be at the end of the burn when closing the session)
I took another HDD and loaded Win98SE (to test the same hardware setup) and I had no problems closing an audio CD burn session.
I have a friend who's a freak when it comes to audio CD's. He would sit down and do a CD to CD copy of audio disks for his different multidisc player's (60+) per session. He got so frustrated with birn failures at 12x because he really wanted the speed of a 12x burn. He narrowed it down to a combination of Win2k and his CDROM not doing a fast digital audio extraction. Once he loaded Win98SE he had no problems.
We finally came to the conclusion that the HAL layer in Win2k was interfering with the access to the drive at higher speeds, thus causing enough delay to cause a buffer underrun. Win98SE allow direct access to the drive without delay.
We both ended up dedicating an older Win98SE system as our 'burn station' (I still prefer Win2k for all other operations)
All the above was with Adaptec CD Creator 4.03. I haven't retried since Adaptec CD Creator 5.0 came out
