I bought the first voodoo card (V1) in early 97, but it probably came out in 96 sometime. I can still remember MechWarrior with the 3dfx patch. Completely different game. Awesome. Would be laughable now, but for that time, the graphix with the V1 chip and patch were remarkable.

Opinion: The release of the Voodoo1 was probably the most dramatic example of "computer magic" in which you could buy one single component and add it to your meager computer and totally transform it into a mean gaming machine. Nothing since has given such a big leap in performance/features since (for a single-component upgrade).
Anyone with me? I bought a Voodoo1 for my K6-233 in like '98 and holy ****- even for the old junky card that it was then, it totally transformed games like quake 2.
(note: I soon sold my Voodoo1 about a month after i got it because after a rebate offer, the newer Voodoo2 was a very good buy http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif)
Just my two cents

Thanks people
I thought that it came out in 95 but 96 sounds correct.
The reason I asked is that I am doing my science assignment on the advancements in graphics technology on the PC and I started with mentioning the voodoo 1 which truly was and still (Sort of) is an awesome card.
