I reformatted my sons computer and now that I want to connect to our network, I have forgotten our password. Does anyone know where to look for the psw in WIN XP?

I have 2 computers connected via a router, and in order to access shared files and printers, I need to type a password. I have forgotten the password and where to look for it in the registry.

What you will have to do is while logged into the OTHER computer locally go in and reset the passwords on the shares and or delete and recreate a new user account for the other computer and list it in the "permissions" tab of the shares in question.

If you reformated can't you just get a new one. I am not sure if this will work in XP but in 98 I can just create a new one when I set up the network.

I ran the networking wizard on the XP machine, and changed the computer name, I also went to shared access folders and gave permission to everyone on the network as well as the users of the other pc.(which has a clean install of ME). I made a floppy on the XP machine to set up the network on the other. I still am asked for a password to access the files. The help files on XP don't work, and it does not give me the option of removing all the pcs' on the network. I then tried the net wizard on the ME pc and set a password for a shared folder; when I try and access it from the XP pc it does not accept the psw. This is ticking me off a bit. Do you think the problem lies with both pcs', or one or the other?
I have been trying out different firewalls to block outbound traffic. I had to go into the inf area of windows to remove some stubborn drivers that XP kept trying to install for the network. I have a feeling this caused my problems. Is it possible to re-install XP RC2 over itself?

When trying to connect to the printer on the remote machine and you are prompted for a name and password, try the following format:

Username: <hostname of XP machine>\<username>
Password: <password>

Thank you for your help and suggestions. I tried to re-install over my present installation, and when setup was asking for the firewall driver that I had removed from the inf folder, I knew that was my problem. So I did a clean install of XP, this time with ntfs file system. Ran the networking wizard on both computers again and all is well. Full file and printer sharing. Thanks again.
