although your message is unclear, it seems as though you're asking how to set up a dual-boot machine w/both linux and windows 98. i don't know if it's possible or not, but i can tell you for sure that the OSes would have to be installed on seperate partitions/drives. linux and windows run on different file systems... win9x uses fat16 or 32, and linux has it's own system which i believe is proprietary. this creates a complication because a computer wants to boot to the C: drive only. if it is possible, i imagine it would require a program to do it.

PHS has the right idea.

Check hardware compatibility with equipment and linux (98 should be OK).

You will need 2 partitions to start (linux want more, but that is part of that install).

Get big hard drive. Create two FAT16 partitions.

Load Win98 into the first partition.

Reboot and load linux. It will recognize there is an existing partition with OS. Have it use the second partition and create any new partitions in the big unused space. Linux will also create a boot loader (or I am almost sure) so you can choose what OS to boot.

After the linux load you should still have a bunch of HD space. You can partition into a lot of FAT16, so both OS can access these partitions. Better yet, create a big FAT32 partition for all of your stuff in 98 and create a big linux partition for all of your data for linux. This should use up the rest of the drive.

Sit back and enjoy dual boot mania.

forgot all about the boot loader included w/linux... i installed it once. at the time there were no V3 drivers and i was having a hard time navigating everything in black & white.... that lasted all of about 5 minutes. <IMG SRC="http://smilecwm.tripod.com/net/biggrin.gif" border=0>
