Thanks for your input. Mntsnow 09-02-2000, 08:40 PM Well without getting into to many specifics you will need at least these items Static IP addy. (public) if you want the "world" to see it Server software such as Apache, IIS ect (will be dependant on what OS/Hardware you have) A decent internet connection with a "fat UPload pipe" (if you can't serve people in a timely fashion they wont stick around for it to load) With better details of what OS/Hardware you are running and such we can get you more indepth details brandon184 09-02-2000, 09:09 PM Check out xitami.com, and download Xitami. Its user friendly and very basic with quite a few powerful features. - Brandon BC 09-05-2000, 07:31 AM You don't need a static ip address, but if you want people to be able to find you easily then it helps. But you would need a web server type of software. I have used both apache and IIS personal as well as the real server version. And all are very easy. Just takes some reading. But I have found some software that uploads your current IP to a static site like if your ISP provides you with some webspace then you could upload your IP everytime you log on and then people could just put in that ip or you could get fancy and enable a redirector or a simple link to that. hope that helps. stodge 09-05-2000, 09:53 AM See http://www.e-smith.net kwebb 09-05-2000, 11:24 AM There are some dynamic DNS hosting sites around. When I was comtemplating moving to another DSL provider that uses PPPOE, I came across a few sites. As far as I can tell, the host site uses a redirect. In other words whatever.com would be resolved as an IP on their network. You would use software that uploades your everchanging IP to there server at regular intervals. Depending, I guess, on your PPPOE clients IP change frequency. Sounded like a whole lot of bunk to me but it is out there. To ShortDahRi: If you use a flavor of 9X or ME, you can use PWS, or Personal Web Server. Lacks the features of the more robust Web servers, but I host my site on it. Plain Jane site, but I do have frames, Flash, etc... Haven't had any problems, but it is strictly a vanity page and rarely gets hit beyond me checking it, so if you plan on a high volume, high hit count page, it is not your best solution. Just an option. There are quite a few freeware, or cheapware webserver solutions out there that will handle volume better. zskillz 09-06-2000, 12:08 AM I was thinking of doing this also, but I'd like to run it with win2000 web server (if there is such a thing... i think there is though http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ) can anyone give me a good reason why to not do it this way? -Z SysOpt.com
