I am at my girlfriends house right now, earlier, i installed starcraft on her computer. Its an hp pavillion with 64 megs of ram, and win me
anyway, i install the game, test it out, everything is fine.
i turned it on a while ago to play, but at startup, the mouse did not work, the resolution was like 600x400, the settings said it was at 16 colors.
i tried everything i could think of, looking for virusesm ect. but nothing worked. also in the device manager the computer says that in order to fix the mouse, windows would need to be reinstalled.
however- in safe mode - the mouse works fine, just like it should
i tried booting with all programs/no programs/certain ones, nothing
any ideas?

the one with the problem is, lol, i ment that my computer is win98
yesm hers is win me, also i got impatient and found out how to restore from microsofts website
but, the first attempt at system restore was unsuccessfull, i tried again with an older restore point, also unsuccessfull
each time the computer restarted, it said that the restore program caused in error in run32.dll
now what?
re-install winME right on top of the old image without formatting. You wont lose anything at all by re-installing winME and will have all a fresh image to work with

Is it a Voodoo card? If so you need to set your monitor up with the proper drivers not Generic monitor

This just happened to me today in XP. I had to rollback the video card drivers as 3 restores were unsuccessful. I had the nice litte "roll back drivers button", but you may want to just try removing the video drivers, replacgin it with generic VGA, then reboot. Also if the mouse worked fine before try re installing the drivers for that too. No reason it shouldnt work now unless some software you're booting is causing a conflict.
One more thing head into safe mode and run MS config, go to startup and uncheck everything. Boot normally and see if you mouse works then. If it does re-cehck things one by one and see what causes your problem.
