Ok, here is my question. I recenly bought a new motherboard, an Abit KT7A-RAID and I was wondering if:
a) It is equiped with the new AWARD spyware?
b) HOW I CAN TURN IT OFF????

I'm looking for info on turning off the spyware on the KT7A-RAID on the KG7-RAID.

If anybody can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

I have an Epox 8K7A mobo that also had that. It said that I could shut it off, but it wouldn't. The only way I could remove it was to flash my bios with Epoxs' updated bios that had removed Phoenix support.

Some of..if not all, motherboard manufacturers have discontinued using the bios programming that has the spyware imbedded. If it is there on a board, I think I read where the bios would have to be flashed to one that does not contain the spyware.

Buy an Epox mobo. The new bios they got has no spyware in it. Just flash your bios with the new one and you're done. But since you already got a mobo then you got a possible problem. They may or may not update the bios with no spyware. Only they know. www.amdmb.com go to the abit forum and ask there.

I started work on removing it at the binary code level, but was "asked" to cease actions about three days into the project from certain people that I can not now indentify.... legal BS in other words.

The only way to remove to code without violating firmware EULAs and engineering patents/copyrights is to update to a later BIOS revision provided directly from the motherboard manufacturer. I doubt your Abit board is equipped with the spyware function due to the majority of its sales are from the retail markets. However, many OEM boards still feature the spyware routine.

Best solution? Buy a board with an AMI bios. AMI released a PR many weeks ago claiming that it will never embedded any adware or tracking devices in its firmware releases.
