Sounds like old drive mechanics with a new circuit card installed to sell..IE: Poor performence but marked to sell.

listen to BBA he speaketh the truth. There is no ide drive today that exeed the sustained transfer rate of even ata-33. ATA 66 can be a slight improvement in transferring data out of the hard drive cache, but why buy an ata-100 drive that runs at 5400 rpm, and will show ABSOLUTELY NO performance increase over an ata-66 drive. if you want better performance get a 7200 rpm hard drive, which will outperform the ibm even at ata-33. plus, who knows what compatibily problems there are with ata-100? and for no performance increase? UGH

All computer enthusiasts are not created equal.

Some desire a large drive as a secondary to store the fruits of the tedious and monotonous labors separate from the operational drive.

5400 rpm doesn't neccessarily means lower data retrieval. Slower rpm might be greately compansated by higher data density.
This drive's preformance is not even close to 100 MB/s, but I bet it's able to kick *** to many 7200 rmp drives.
Latestn Maxtor 5400 rmp drives are much speedier than most of 7200 rpm due to the higher data density.
