I've had loadsa problems with my cd writer recently, keep getting aspi errors, or 'is not atapi compatible f1 to resume' and when my writer does show up it shows up as a removable disk.
I've tried everything, tried out all the advice ive been given still no luck, if i wiped my hard drive would this help? Does wiping your hard drive affect BIOS? I think its the only option i have left.

Thanks

Dave

The OS has practically nothing to do with the BIOS, formating will not help the detection of drives at boot up. I would suggest making sure the drive works and that the connection cable is luged ion correctly and not dammaged.

Cheers, i have tried a new cable, same errors. I asked about formatting because i thought windows contained drivers as well.
The writer worked fine when i first installed it a month ago.

Thanks anyway

Just because the Bios does not detect it doesn't mean it won't work. If you can afford to re-install windows theres a chance it will work. These kinds of things are hard to diagnos, but I would format as a last resort. (Which I have a feeling it might be:D )
