I have a friend in sacramento who wants to get a new desltop or laptop. I would build a system for him but he lives too far away and i dont wanna ship it.

He's willing to spend $2800 for the comp alone...w/o monitor.

What should he be able to get with this money?

Are there any good places online to barebones systems?

We have ruled out building the comp, right?

Dell.

NOT the Cow Company, Hewlett Smackard, Comcrap or Emachines.

You know you can build a high end systen for him for less. Low end systems cost less from the majors than from us - but high end systems are so generic from the majors! I'm sure you could build it for less including shipping! What's the holdup? If you need it, I'm sure you can get needed advice right here...

Yeah...I told him not to buy any "name brand" comp...like compaq, hp, **** cow box, etc. but i told him dell's are good, but kinda expensive

How much would it cost to ship a comp to him? i live in southern california. i guess i didnt want to build one for him and ship it cuz i was lazy.

PassnThru, before you state that YOU COULD build for less, have YOU priced all the components for a 1ghz system including s/h and accessories??

I thought not, we've been through this before.

Check search, you will see what it takes to build a system.

Building yourself is not always to save money, it is to tailor the system to your needs/wants.

hmmm cant build a system with a intel 1ghz

they are only shipped to OEMs

but i would build it myself
it may be in the same pricerange but you will get better stuff and learn about comps much more if you build it

also the quality of the mobos and so on in these systems are ofter lower than poor

i was thinking of trying to get him to build his own system. i could help him, but he's kinda comp illiterate so i dunno how well he would do. he's never built a system, and prolly never even taken the cover off the comp he has right now. should i just tell him to get a dell just because it would be convenient?

there is a great computer company in the seattle area that build high quality, high performance gaming systems... they constantly win reviews in pcgamer and other magazines... check them out at www.falcon-nw.com (http://www.falcon-nw.com)
they just won a pcgamer editors choice award for their stuff last month, and that machine only cost $1500...
you might want to check them out...

Falcon seems a bit pricey. You can't configure a comp with them, can you?

I still say Dell.

Dell..

We do business with them pretty much monthly, and they are a pleasure to deal with. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
