I completed the first page of a personal site (my first) and uploaded it using WS_FTP. There were only four files. Three graphics and an HTML script that was bare bones. Each picture had some writing that gave the name of the person in the picture.
The files uploaded and are sitting in the site manager spot. I can click on any of the files and it shows itself perfectly. What I need to know is how to get those files working on my ste that is created but just says that it is under construction. The files lay out beautifully with boxes for the pictures and each box has an X. (no graphics)
The graphic files are there, I just need to get them into their respective boxes. The site manager has no instructions. The site address is: www.powersfamily.bappy.com (http://www.powersfamily.bappy.com) I will appreciate any help the I can get. I have e-mailed for site service but that could take days. Thanks.

did you name your html file "index.html" with no quotes?

I agree with golfcart,
And to possibly solve the red x problem you need to re look at your souce code. If it refers to a directory other than the directory that the pics reside in,then you need to change it to that exact path.
Allow me to elaborate:
Depending on what you used to build your page your source code may look something like this
"<html>
#<title>My Page Bla Bla</Title>
#<body>
#This is my home Page
#<img src="mygifjpg.jpg">
Bla Bla Bla
Ok the main point is the picture. Some page building programs place the whole path from your hard drive eg: C:\mydocuments\website\mygifjpg.jpg
and some websites do not automaticlly convert this back to mygifjpg.jpg I think geocities is one of those sites.
To sum it up , If you place all of your pics on your site in a folder called "pictures"
Then when you point to a picture in your source it would look like this :
#"<img src="pictures/mygifjpg.jpg">
I hope that this is not to vague for you ,and goodluck with your site!
Feel free to check out my first ever site (about two years old now and not touched for the last eighteen months)

To davem and golfcart (great handle). No I did not name the page. I will spend a little time digesting what daveem had to say and make some efforts and then post back. Thank you both, Don
Depending on the server you will be uploading the file to, the main page must be named either INDEX.HTML, INDEX.HTM or DEFAULT.HTML, most likely it will be INDEX.HTML
You don't have to save the picture files to the default folder that is located in Geocities server. Just delete whatever is in that server and highlight all the files in the root directory PLUS its subfolders and upload the files using WS_FTP and it willl be fine, you don't have to have the subdirectory the way geocites has it. Like I said, just delete everything that existed in the Geocities server and upload your complete root files and subfolders.
Just think of that left windows of WS_FTP as your C: drive.

If you re read my first message NDC, you will see that I was not saying that he had to have the files in a particular folder.
Just that he must point to the exact path that he places the pics(whatever it may be).
NDC has a Good point though,Don.
You should look at it as an extension of your own hard drive.

More power to you Don,
It's a strange thing this internet,we are so ageless behind this electronic curtain.
Seeing a picture is a great reality check.I have to say it is great to see someone that is over 21 like me embracing this new technology.
I am only 35 but I feel 60 sometimes when younger people have all the answers.
The next step for you my friend is to create a couple of links from those pics to each persons own page.
There are some good tutorials here:

It is a part of the earthweb site just like sysopt.
Have a great time building and bettering your site.
