Does anybody here have Earthlink DSL? I'm thinking of switching from bellatlantic, since Earthlink gives higher speeds at about the same price. How is the service and speeds

I haven't used their dsl, but I have had their dial up for over a year.. it is extremely reliable and always stable... I know that earthlink is actually the isp for att@home in many many areas... and they have excellent customer service. by phone, and they have live tech support via web chat...

Hi emcron

ELN DSL here via PacBell in SoCal. I also am a former dial-up customer. I've always been satisfied with ELN's service, uptime and reliability, and their tech support is above average.

Downtime here is rare and the email account problems are slightly less rare, however one can check (if you're connected, that is) ELN's System Status (http://help.earthlink.net/status/), and your POP3 email account can be accessed at Mailstart (http://www.mailstart.com/) .

If you're inquiring about DSL, check to see if you can get a static IP in your area, IMHO you'll have less problems, especially if you want to use ICS.

If you end up getting a dynamic IP, you may be using a PPPoE, and you may need to use SyGate 4 for ICS'ing - this has been my experience, anyway. A good place to check these issues and for a good working PPPoE (not ELN's default) read Robert Schlabbach's page (http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~normanb/)

Great site for DSL topics:
www.dslreports.com (http://www.dslreports.com)
http://www.speedguide.net/index.shtml

I feel you can't go wrong with the speed, reliability and tech support of Earthlink and am a satisfied customer.

Also of note: ELN is one of the few (if any?) of the ISPs to refuse installing the FBI's Carnivore electronic surveillance device. See http://www.infowar.com/class_1/00/class1_071400a_j.shtml

One can only hope this will continue.
