Nomadd 09-01-2000, 12:36 AM Last night I removed my Modem Blaster and replaced it with a generic brand modem to test whether or not my frequent disconnects from the internet were indeed modem related and not the result of poor phone lines or other internal problems. Much to my pleasure, the new modem worked like a charm. No disconnects (the old modem was disconnecting me every 5 min and giving me poor connections). Anyway, to make along story short, this morning, I booted up to test it again. I got an error message that said somehting like "could not establish connection to modem." I re-opened the case and re-seated the modem card (with all power down). I rebooted and saw A FLASH coming from inside my case!! After this, I was unable to power up at all. the power supply fan does not spin. Power Supply blowout? Motherboard blowout?? ****!! What was it? Did the re-seating of the modem short out the board? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif Stembolt 09-02-2000, 07:03 PM That flash sounds like bad news. If you are very lucky (don't get your hopes up), it is only a fuse in the PSU. Good luck. SysOpt.com
