U.S. won't seek Microsoft breakup

Can someone explain to me how exactly microsoft could be split up? If bill gates owns microsoft, being the largest share holder, than it is his company, and if split into to seperate companies he would still own them both, it's like GM owning Chevrolet, Pontiac, Cadilac, GMC, Saab, Saturn, Hummer, etc.etc., it's still the same company...

the government split up that Rockafeller guy because of his Standard Oil monopoly (he really was a ******* though) but he being the owner he still controlled all 36 companies it broke into
within 1 year his net worth trippled so basically there is nothing ya can do

Bill Gates aint a bad guy though, Windows is easy to use and easy to configure, the only part of MS which is a monopoly is Internet Explorer
if you call one of those custom computer places like DELL and ask them to put Linux Mandrake 8.0 on the computer they send you, they will gladly do it for you

but if you buy an already made computer from Future Shop (or any store) it will basically always include Netscape so i dont see what the problem is.....
