There are so many angles from which to look at this "gem" that everyone can get a different reflection:
From a head-on point of view it looks as though the "big-boys" know that the key to survival is diversity; hopefully they see some value and great potential in the Linux operating system. It also pleases me to see that funding is available for my new "favorite" distribution of Linux. It was hard for me to believe that they were floundering considering how much money I spent on the last two boxed sets of SuSE Linux.
On the other hand, bolstering up an obivous Microsoft competitor could be good for Microsoft in the long run since it certainly disproves allegations of a monopoly -could it be that the companies investing here are actually doing Microsoft a favor? ...and quite frankly, it surprized me to see Intel as one of the investors, after all, *some people* call them "wintel" machines for *a reason -namely that there has been a longstanding relationship between Microsoft and Intel.*
