I can see their logic, however I would not dump the P III's just yet. Too much negative input on the P4's... I'd keep the P III's until the P4 was the animal to buy, and it isn't today... A 1 gig Celeron ain't going to compete with a Duron.... Not in this lifetime anyway... I also belive, (an have experienced) that a 1.1 GHz Celeron is not comparable to a T-Bird, not even at 950 vs 1.1 GHz. And...I am an Intel man ....today...

sorry intel. it isn't going to work, i'm afraid. it's only $1 cheaper, and it's slower than the AMD stuff. it makes no sense to buy a processor that's so much slower, for (practically) the same price.
and as anyone who thinks would know, celery's should never have been made. they wouldn't if i'd been the head of design. not in their currently based form, anyway.
make 'em cheap, sure, but make them work too. don't use speed to substitute ability.

I really hate to admit this, but in the eye of the general buying public (the marketed majority) the Pentium 4 is already "the animial to buy."
Prices continue to fall, and after examining some off the shelf systems selling at places like "Best Buy" and "Fry's," I have come to the conclusion that a consumer can get a pretty good deal on a P4, Celeron, or Athlon, and leave the store with a very decent system. It will fill their needs and they probably will never care whats "inside" as long as it works.
As for me and my house - we will continue to support AMD, 3-Athlons, 1-Duron, 1-Celeron (maybe soon to be upgraded to a 1Gz model http://www.sysopt.com/news/gws/cdata/smile.gif ).
Soon to be an AMD stockholder.

Maybe AMD is faster than Intel, But They run very hot and I think they aren't so stable as INTEL.

I dont know why there only two choices we have here..INtel and AMD. Celerons were made for kids and they do have their charm.
My Duron is so much nicer too and everything, but the fact of the matter is that we only want a pC to get our s*** done for us and not crash in the middle of some heavy multitasking.
Lets also keep in mind about the importance of the other components in a CPU.
all i know is that if its not broke,,,TWEAK IT.,.,.,.,><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><

Intel found out that the 66MH Cellery would run quite easily at 100MH so to make a few extra bucks they just raised the bus speed. My 700 runs at 1052 without any heat problems. They just took the 766 and made it a 1100.
