direct draw?

ok im about 2 go bonkers on this 1..i have some beta i have no clue when i downloaded it...but i keep getting this little grey box that says "Microsoft DirectDraw beta has run out" i have no clue what this is or where its at but its driving me crazy....it gives me no options except just 2 select ok 2 close the window...it only seems 2 happen when i launch in2 games..im not sure if its something 2 do with direct x or what....plzzzzzzzz help im going crazy

You are not the only one! Just happened to me tonight, couldn't figure that one out- no reference on Micros site with a quick search.
Reinstalled video drivers, directx7a, did system restore..........nada
Reinstalled ME over itself and everything seems Hunky-doory, all drivers settings etc saved.

umm its 3:45am here..lol whats ME...yea i tried the direct x 7 allso..was thinking it was maybe the direct x8 beta i d/l but im not sure..so i just reinstalled direct x 7 but no luck

ME is Windows Millenium Edition, if you are running 98 you can reinstall that over itself too http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Mind you I had DX8 in my box at one time, thought I got rid of it all when I went back to 7a (maybe not?)

yea maybe it has something 2 do with that DX8 if you had it 2....ive looked all through my windows files and cant find anything called Direct Draw...but im getting close 2 needing a reinstall on my windows being its getting really corrupted..so i guess ill try that..im getting tons of illegal operations every time i turn around

grrrrrrrr..after i went threw and reinstalled win 98se on top of the old 1..well now i dont get the DirectDraw message http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif now i get direct x 8 and direct sound errors now...grrrrrrrrrrrrrr...NEVER,NEVER,NEVER install beta **** on your computer grrrrrrrrr..a friend of mine just said he went through this same thing yesterday..and he said the only way he could fix it was with a reformat...grrrrrrrrrrrr....thank u microsoft thank u very much....btw now when i go back 2 the product update page direct x 8 is nowhere 2 be found hummmmmmmmmmmmm http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

Glad this was posted, I was going to download the 8 version and now I can't find it. No love lost it would seem. Bit naughty they don't say it's a Beta version though.

If you pull DX8 from the registry and install DX7a it should heal your woes http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
hkey local machine/software/microsoft/directx
double click version,erase numbers will let you install DX7a over 8.
There was a post somewhere how to get rid of all of it, see if I can find it,
