Techie Dude 08-31-2000, 02:35 PM Where abouts are you in the world? Here in the UK we have to pay per minute we use the net. My phone bil was somethig like £180 a month! Totally free dial ups are fairly new, and often contain a catch. Ie, some companies make you change phone companies to get free net access. In these cases, it`s often that you can only dial in from a certain line (ie, your works phone line, or your own home number). There are a few companies that don`t do this, such as RHA. I have 2 accounts with them, one for home, one for work. Both free 24/7, and I can dial into either aco**** from any line. All down to the ISP I guess........ [This message has been edited by Techie Dude (edited 08-31-2000).] seti 09-01-2000, 12:13 AM Ok, if person X had a limit free dial up account at work, could they dial the number from home to use the same plan? I'm not person X, I'm just wondering, honest. Petros 09-01-2000, 12:23 AM Yes, I think it would work. Generally, dial-up can be used anywhere. I could (before I got DSL http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ) dial in from anywhere I wanted to. qball 09-01-2000, 12:32 AM Yes, as long as person X pays person Y lotsa money (you may not be person X, but I AM person Y). Regardless of stupid jokes, the answer is still yes. The connection will be dependent upon distance and line quality. I actually dialed from Virginia to New Jersey to access my ISP, not because I wanted to, because I had to. It worked, with a slight degredation of speed. seti 09-01-2000, 01:36 PM Yeah I found out that where person X lives they pay by the minute. The cost of internet access is also insanely high, relative to Canada. paradoxtime 09-02-2000, 12:13 AM Techie whats the website for you ISP, I am on 24/7 free calls with AOL but pay £24.99 a month for priviledge SysOpt.com
