and fired-up Zone Alarm!

And dumped BID in the process!!

I used to be one of the "apostles" of BID...it could do no wrong in my eyes. But my opinion has changed drastically over the past few weeks, when it has suffered lockups and random turn-offs, etc. It has gone from a trusted security application to a buggy pest.

I've been evaluating ZA on another machine for about three weeks now and I've found it to be solid as a rock! So, about 10 minutes ago I jettisoned BID on my gateway server (I wish like crazy I could get a refund) and fired-up ZA.

If you haven't downloaded this FREE (FREE) application, you're simply crazy. It is the best!!!

I know a lot of previous threads have been concerned on personal firewalls and BID and ZA. I just wanted to throw my $0.02 worth into the mix!!

Gotta agree with you on that, I've used both and find Zone alarm excellent over the last 4-5 months http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Another great firewall program is Black Ice Defender. It has a very convenient GUI. It also gives you more information on the attack, and also tips you on what to do. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I used to be so confident with BID, until thier screw up where they released the first 2.x beta version as a update. From there on, I had nothing but problems. Lockups, spontainious reboots, crashes. I sent E-Mails to there tech support, and they did not respond. I tried about 4 more of the 2.x versions and kept having problems. (They were releasing new versions every few days, trying to clean up thiere mess). Finally, I went back to 1.9.33, the last stable version IMO. I'm still using it, but very unhappy with Network Ice for all the problems and the lack of support.
I'm not sure what I'll end up doing.

Really, you had those problems with BID? I have used it with 98 and NT4 and Win2K, and never had problems.
