I built a system for my dad, and with a 1.2 athlon (200) and put a no name geforce2 MX200
video card.
I only got 1083 on 3dmark2001
(default settings)
is this a good score for this system??
how much could i have got with a GTS with DDR??

What da heck!!
i run the test on win200 sp2 and the results were around 600!!
all the drivers in win98 SE and win2000 are the lastest!!

What driver version are you currently using for your MX card?

1083 on Geforce MX with 1.2Ghz processor is extremely low. You shoud be expecting to see about 2400~2600 or so with that configuration. Are you sure you loaded all the patches and updates for the mainboard chipset for the AGP port to work at optimal speeds?

Another thing to consider is that 3Dmark scores are slightly higher on Win98 Vs. Windows 2000. But 40% difference does seem quite extreme for Windows 98 Vs. Windows 2000!

You might want to look here for comparison on 3DMark 2001...

Yeahh.. that's a pretty low score. It seems alot of people are having problems with the 3dmark scores (check the videocard forum).
You should check if your mobo has a via chipset and install their latest 4 in 1 package.
Also check your AGP settings. Make sure you are running at 4x, that fast writes are enabled, etc.!

I have the same proccessor and video card and I get around 2300 to 2500 easy without overclocking or nothing.!

I got a 64MB MX400 and scored a high of 2330 winmarks. Thats with updated drivers and a t-bird 1.333Ghz w/512MB DDR RAM.

At what resolution are you running the benchmark? What color depth?

The GF2MX-200 is extremely limited by it's 64 bit memory bus. It's a shame that such a powerful core is left starving for data. It's like a sprinter trying to run a race while breathing through a straw.

In comparison, my Duron 900 + GF2MX (original) gets about 2200.

Yeah.. the mx 200 is slow but it doesn't do that bad in the 3dmark benchmark.! Or does it???

Hi, sorry I didn't post sooner but I was on vacations, so I will try to reply all at once

- my drivers are 12.41 in both OS
- im not totally sure about installing correctly all the 4-1 drivers because this was my first AMD machine. Im about 90% sure. in W2k only two of the drivers are installed I think
- My chipset is a KT133, and I dont think im running 4x, and have no clue about fast writes. My mobo is chaintech
- my 3Dmark settings are the defaults

I got a GeForce mx200 from a friend of mine and I'm sorry to say but your card wont do much better than that only if you overclock it!

My friend has a system like yours (almost--maybe faster) and the score in 3dmark is similar.! I thought you should be doing better because I didn't see that it was a mx200.!

MX200 sucks!!
Nvidia shouldn't have put their name on that piece of ****, on the other hand it was the cheapest video card I could find (excluding old TNTs) so I deserve this for being cheap.

could you recommend me any utility to overclock the video card??

Yes you can use some utilities.!
Personally I use the GeForce Tweaking Utility in which you can control different settings in Direct3d and OpenGL and a bunch of stuff!
And of course, also allows you to overclock (depends on the drivers!!).
And then there's the NVmax utility! You can find both of them at:

http://www.tweakfiles.com
and look under video.!

The greatest benefit will come about by overclocking the memory bus. But even then, it's still extremely memory-bus limited.

For a sub-$50 card, the GF2MX200 is a decent performer. But for a few dollars more, you can get a much better card like the GF2MX400 or the Radeon LE.

Wow. I feel really sorry for you. I have a 800Mhz Duron with a Radeon LE. And I get 2641 3Dmarks. I almost did get a MX. But thanks to the fine folks at sysopt I avioded that http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Come on now guys.. Don't be too harsh on GeforceMX200... As a matter of fact my highest score on my GeForceMX200 was 4150, and that was on my dual P-III 667@740mhz...
Detonator driver 12.60, I'm happy on it's performance as well.. Forgot to mention, I O/C the card to 200/210.... Without overclocking it, I get 3670 or something like that, so I don't think it's really the card... It's power is limited, but I believe it's a good buy for your bucks... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif So I guess I'm a happy camper... Also my card is from Inno3D... just bought the mx400 and it's doing really fine.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Mykel, that's impossible (the score) with an mx200 if you are running 3dmark2001! First, 3dmark doesn't take advantage of the dual cpus, and trust me, even a GTS has a hard time to reach that kind of score.! Second, my friend (the one with the mx200 card) has a T-bird 1.4ghz so power is not the problem!

So I guess you are talking about 3dmark2000!
Please specify!

if you get that score with a MX200 then i will buy it to you for 200$$

by the way, which are the normal clock speeds
of this card. I get 175 core-286 memory as default speed

2500 is a good score for an MX in 2K1. You should expect over 2200 with the normal MX.

Man that is really a crappy score! My TNT2 scores about a 1500 in 3DM2K1.
