I need a string to silence the speaker on my modem. The modem volume control has no effect. I know it can be done though, because when I was using netzero the modem was silent. It is a US robotics PCI voice modem.

Simple, open the case and stick a piece of tape over the speaker, need more quiet, more tape. Fast too. No danger of frying the registry. Worked like a champ on mine http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I was thinking along that line... May give it a try if all else fails.

close. my records show an extra setting of:

M0 = speaker off
M1 = speaker on until connect
L1 = speaker volume low (L2= med, L3 = high)

these are generic... should work on any modem, but not necessarily.
