I have a old 386 game on floppy and was wanting to know how to get into it and modify some settings.

I was told to get a hexeditor to do this. I downloaded the hexeditor but now what do I do? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Any help will be greatly appreciated

God Bless

An "old 386 game"? 16Bit DOS exe?

Anyway, easier said than done.

I'll assume you got as far as opening file in hexeditor.

Basically you need to know what to look for and what to replace it with. Sorta like:

When I pull the file up, it shows crazy characters like #,$,%,À,¤ etc...

How do I figure out what these symbols mean?

What game is it?

The hexeditor should have two panes. One has the hexidecimal representation, pairs of 0-F. The other pane is what you see.

To hack this code, you need to know what to look for and what to replace with. Other than that, it will not be obvious, your hacking an executable, not the source code. To hack the source code, you need the source code or a decompiler.

qball, e-mail me today 7-20 and I will e-mail you a copy of the game. I don't have internet access at home so if I don't receive your e-mail today by 4:00 PM I won't be able to respond until Monday morning. It's 9 AM right now.

I will try to explain to you what I was wanting to do and you can let me know if I am jumping into deep water.
