I do get the occasional spam due to email bots that glean email addy;s from the BBS. Is the email addy the same one that is listed in your profile? I will point this thread out to the "higher ups" NDC 08-29-2000, 04:17 AM hmmmmm. That's strange. I haven't been getting any SPAM since I joined SYSOP. howste 08-29-2000, 09:18 AM Well, there was this one... http://b.postmypic.com/b.nsf/Z/spamOGTL/$file/spam.gif Steve Joel Kleppinger 08-29-2000, 09:20 AM It's extremely difficult to track spam. If you've been in any massive email forwards (of course, you probably won't know since you have to be near the beginning), if you've done any posting in newsgroups, or your email address is available ANYWHERE on the web, you're open to spam. I've just looked at it as a fact of life. I have my email program configured to delete what I KNOW is spam (I only know this happens if I "get mail" and check my email program and there's nothing new... otherwise, it's all behind my back). and still 3-5 spam a day slip through. Spam is pretty much a fact of life for a public conversant. I'm sorry you now have to go through it, but blaming SysOpt is no answer. Start learning about email filters and use them appropriately. SysOpt 08-29-2000, 09:28 AM Here's the bottom line: unless you signed up for the JavaScripts newsletter from EarthWeb as well, the spam didn't come from us. The JavaScrips listserv settings were misconfigured a few days ago and allowed some spammers to spam the list - the problem was promptly fixed, however. But there have not been any problems with the sysopt listserv. I am the only one who has permission to send mail to our 33,000 newsletter subscribers, and the only mail I send to it is our newsletter, once per week. BTW, I signed up for a usa.net free email account a couple months ago. Within a couple of weeks, I was getting spams - even though I hadn't given my email to anyone. Spammers have their ways. Nomadd 08-30-2000, 12:25 AM I love spam. Especially in the morning for breakfast..., you can prepare it all sorts of ways, like...,,, oh!!., you mean junk mail!! ::blush:: I have NEVER received spam from sysopt, thats one of the many things I like about them http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif RobUK 08-31-2000, 02:39 PM What is getting spammed???? howste 08-31-2000, 02:57 PM RobUK, spam is unsolicited junk email. So I guess getting spammed is receiving it. Steve [This message has been edited by howste (edited 08-31-2000).] SysOpt.com
