Thanks HoneyChile 06-16-1999, 04:02 PM I agree with Ryan. Tyan is the way to go! It's funny that you asked for 6PCI, dual processor and AGP capabilities! As soon as I saw your message, I said to myself "get a Tyan!" I am looking to purchase the S1837UANG Thunderbolt for my new PC system that I am building. Techstore.com has the S1837 for $541.00. Good luck! RyanVM 06-16-1999, 05:12 PM HoneyChile, do a search on PriceWatch. A recent search there yielded $507 from two places and $508 from another. www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) Ryan Nathan G. 06-16-1999, 07:02 PM Thanks again, The Tyan S1837 is what we are going to use on this project. This will be part of a video/audio editing system (business lower end) which has all kinds of funky PCI cards. This board was a good solution for our app. Thought some of you may be wondering why we want all those slots. Thank you very, very ,VERY much. Salutes to all! Nathan G. Bleeding Edge 06-16-1999, 10:33 PM Sorry to join late. AMI is one of the best. Very pricey. http://www.ami.com/motherboards/motherboard.html I think one of their solutions implements 12 full lenth PCI slots. The less expensive ones have the 6PCI, 1AGP, 1ISA configuration. I've built systems with Tyan. They are good. So is SuperMicro. AMI and AMI vendors have the best personal support. RyanVM 06-17-1999, 12:06 AM Tyan makes a pair of them, actually. Their S1836DLUAN Thunder100 and their S1837UANG Thunderbolt. The Thunder100 is older and uses onboard wide SCSI, while the Thunderbolt has onboard wide ultra2 SCSI. The Thunderbolt is running at about $500 right now, and the Thunder100 is running at about $420. If I were you, I'd choose the Thunderbolt. Oh yeah, both board have onboard 10/100 ethernet and sound as well, though the 1837 has a better sound chip. Anand rated the Thunderbolt quite high (a B+), he especially liked how stable is was, even with 256MB DIMMS. Here's the Thunderbolt review: http://www.anandtech.com/html/review_display.cfm?document=924 Here's the Thunder100 : http://www.anandtech.com/html/review_display.cfm?document=215 Ryan Nathan G. 06-17-1999, 12:37 AM Cool, Thank you very much RyanVM!!!! Nathan G. RyanVM 06-18-1999, 10:24 AM Geez!!! How many PCI-to-PCI bridge chips did they have to put in to make that work??? I saw a motherboard with like 9 PCI slots, but only 4 of them were busmastered. Then you have also have to find a case for that motherboard. Yikes!!! Ryan Bleeding Edge 06-18-1999, 03:30 PM It's obviously a server, but man, its amazing. Did you look at the specs? Its a quad Zeon board that comes with 4G onboard memory with 8 separate VRM's. Two each for each CPU. One for the CPU voltage, the other for the voltage of CPU cache. Three Peer-to-Peer PCI. Out of the 12 slots, 6 are 32-bit, 2 are 32-bit hot-plugables and 4 are 64-bit -amazing! Nathan G. 06-18-1999, 09:33 PM I looked at the AMI boards (Thanks B.E. for link)i dont think we need a quad system. Its cool though. the ThunderBolt has 10/100 NIC,Sound and U2 SCSI (adaptec) ON- BOARD, that leaves all those (6) PCI slots open. Thanks RyanVM 06-19-1999, 11:33 PM *wipes the drool from around his mouth* ****!!! Can you imagine running Quad Xeons on one of those boards??? Think of how many MegaKeys/s you could do in RC5!!! lol...that would be the ultimate waste of power! Ryan SysOpt.com
