Cold Fusion

I have been experimenting with different modules for web page integration for a few months, trying to decide for myself which one to go with. I just found TechGear.net, run by a guy on this board (bkehoe, i think). In his About page he states he used cold fusion for his webpage. I regret to say I know nothing about this. Does anyone have any reference links or stories to share about their experience with Cold Fusion, i welcome your suggestions.

I have never worked with CF. Some of my friends have.

It is a library of tags that are written in C++ and deployed as dlls. The tags are used to retrieve/insert data into a database. If know C++ you can create your own tags and deploy them.

You need to have a web server & the Cold Fusion server running as you do development.

I have just finished a query webpage using Cold Fusion that creates a dynamic webpage based on the user's input and the contents of an Access Database. I have never had a class in Cold Fusion but I have had C++ & VB. It took all of two days to figure out, using a $25.00 book: Cold Fusion ISBN#0-7615-3016-9. It also has a copy of Cold Fusion Server 4.5 and Studio on the CD that comes with it. Good luck! ~denise

I have used Colfusion to design a couple of websites and i must say that for a beginner language it is very simple to use, but i would recommend the use of ASP or some higher language as it provides greater power and integration.

I use ColdFusion everyday at work. It took me only 3 months to get comfortable with writing web applications with it... simple yet POWERFUL! Since it's almost entirely tag based like HTML (with some built-in functions), many should be able to do the same. I think the only reason it hasn't gotten off the ground as much as ASP has is because a server license costs $3000 while ColdFusion studio (very powerful editor) costs $495. ASP is free as long as you're running IIS.

If you want to see ColdFusion at work, check out http://www.divetristar.com (designed for a friend) itinerary section. It uses 1 CF file to read off a database you can place anywhere on the webserver machine. I also created an administrator which allows my friend to edit that info like a webform... CF is truly powerful stuff and no scripting experience (like ASP and VBscript) is necessary. CF does the same thing in less lines of code! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I wish its popularity would pick up... hopefully Macromedia will do a better job with marketing.
