Enable or disable the read-ahead or write cache.

Change the drive Automatic Acoustic Management settings (quite/low performance, normal/high performance).

Change the predefined capacity of the drive.

Switch the Ultra DMA mode.

New feature! Change Advanced Power Mode - allows you to change between the lowest power consumption and the highest power consumption (maximum performance level).

New feature! Show Drive Temperature - shows the current drive temperature in Celsius and Farenheit.

Get it from here (http://www.storage.ibm.com/hdd/support/download.htm)

Would this download work for drives other than IBM?

I downloaded 3 tools from the ibm website, 2 of them needed to write to a floppy drive (third I didn't even try). I don't have a floppy drive, it's pretty lame for them to want to write there - just like windows always thinks that the drivers that aren't in the system are in drive a:. Which pretty much stops the system for a while when it tries to access non-existing drive.
Perhaps I'll try somewhere later http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

... provided your HD supports it. most SCSI drives have thermistors, and I am sure the later IDE will, but I only have a Maxtor IDE drive so cannot tell for the IBMs.

Muno - I'm in the same boat as you, however my solution: create the floppy on another PC and then burna bootable CD, with all those utilities on it... bypasses the problem nicely http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Jonty - guess not http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

muno and LostBok - even more easier solution - you can extract the whole .exe file with WinRAR http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

P.S. Liked temp monitoring feature ...

Best Regards ...

Cool! right now I've downloaded 60% of the IBM tool! This should be cool! My IBM drive is already amazing! It's fast, and silent! It don't mind a little noise though, so I'm going to see about speeding it up!
