i have a TDK velocd 24x burner a 1.4 amd thunderbird processor and an asus a7a266 board. im running win 2k and... when i try to burn a cd @ 24X its slower then burning @ 12x .. @ 24X the burnproof keeps on cutting in and stopping and starting the recording so when i burn @ 12x it just goes straight through. shouldnt a 1.4 mhz chip be able to handle the speed? im not multitaskin that much when i am burning only have an ftp window running aim and irc thats it. is the net responsible for the burn proof cuting in?

It's definitely NOT the CPU. With your level of mutlitasking you shouldn't have a problem either. What is the source? HD, CD?

The BURNProof kicks in when there is not an adequate stream of data coming in. If you use your hard drive, maybe it's too fragmented (run defrag) or it's been accessed by other programs (this is how multitasking affects burning) or swaps. If your source is a CDRom maybe it's not fast enough to catch up with 24x (6MB/s) speeds but copes with 12x.

Is DMA enabled for the burner? Make sure it is and let us know http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

eagle1: I'm at a whopping 8X!

But this nifty PlexWriter 8/4/32A rocks... never a coaster (except for that time I opened 50 IE windows {yes literally, I have 512MB RAM, so}, had winamp running, DNETC cracking, Downloading another MP3, copying a CD from my DVD Drive to the HD, AND burning a CD from my HD :-) It got to 92% then pooped out... that's pretty good though!
