Technically, I'm on a University network with a gigabit connection between buildings and six simultaneous T-1's to link us to the world.

So how do I find out what my average speed is?

I'm on road runner it varies from very fast to unable to find server at least a half dozen times a day. Monday I think I'll call the public service comission and raise a little stink. barry

Sorry bout not getting back to ya last night.
I use to deal in sat equip (before i retired
2nd time) so no I dont have any trouble
with direcpc. Except when I do something
stupid with my Compooter and I have trouble
with the os. They just changed and offered
unlimited surfing/downloading for a set $40
a month. My equip works fine during rain
allthough I worry bout lightning. Other day
it was slow, took 25mins to download w2k sp1

i'm running a 56k modem piped down to about a 28.8 by line noise. http://smilecwm.tripod.com/dvv/pissed.gif

transfer rates for webpages range between 3k and 5k, downloads usually settle in at 2.7k and stay there.

sux not to have broadband in my area, and $h!tty phone lines to boot.

I'll try to ans Jacobnero8196. Direcpc for now, is the best any of in rural areas can
do. I understand that there are a couple of
companies working on direct trans/recv equip.
I used equip like this before I retired from
Navy, only it operatered in 200mhz range
and not the gigahertz range that our civilian
sat equip operates in. They just started a
deal where its unlimited online/downloads
for familys at $40 a mo. That would be Plus
whatever ISP svc you used. It cost a lot every Month, but 5khz downloads for regular
ISP would have taken me 7 Hours plus for
w2k sp1. You'll have to decide. I wont go back.

www.gilat2home.com (http://www.gilat2home.com)

From www.gilat2home.com (http://www.gilat2home.com) [/b]
With GTH, the typical Web surfing experience will be about 10 times faster than standard dial-up modems when receiving content, and about twice as fast as standard dial-up service when sending information.

That ain't really that fast, since Cable is 100 times faster..........

Hold on to your seats: 46000 bps here! Hey, for $2.50 per month it's not bad! I think I dl at 4-6 kbps.
