I'm going to convert an ULTRA66 to a FASTTRAK66 using the instructions provided by Sysopt.com(Thank you very much, but it don't say what wattage of 100-ohm resistor to use. Does it make a difference?
Thanks for the help

Not sure of the wattage, but use the one that has the bands like this one here: http://www6.tomshardware.com/storage/00q1/000329/fastrak66-05.html
This is the one I used and it works great. I also modified mine this way instead of soldering pin to pin or pin to chip below the bios chip ont he card. The one pictured above is the safest way. Only need to toucht he card once with the solder.

Going by what's in the picture and what it says in the text on the page linked above, a 1/4 W resisitor would do just fine.

if I may
the site says 1/4W is OK. of course higher watages no problem only physicaly bigger. the confusion may be the resistance. cant find my color code card, but the one you use may not look the same any way, the page says 100-1000 does this mean 100 to 1000 or 100K
(100.000) OHMS.

It appears from the picture at the site that they are using a 1k resistor (1,000 ohms) at 1/4 watt. It's 0nly a pull down (to ground) resistor so the size (ohms) isnt that important, nor is wattage. The colors appear to be Brown(1) Black(0) Red(2).
The last color being the number of zeros after the first two....1000 ohms.

Thanks All for the Help
I think I'll go with the 1/2 watt 100-ohm resistor like it shows from some other place I found http://64.27.77.160/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000012.html where it clearly shows a picture for us dummies that it was a 1/2 watt that this person(turd of borg) used.
I guess my next question is should I use the older Bios ver 108 or the newer one that is on the promise site. You think by now that promise is on to this and is doing something in there newer bios upgrades to prevent this??? Just wondering.

After checking out Daveleau's reply going to tomshardware site they had a link to this place that had info on the card I have, the A6 revision. http://www.geocities.com/promise_raid/a6.htm
Thanks Daveleau

Just to chime in... I used a 100-Ohm, 1/4watt, 5% tolerance resistor.
As for the flash utility and bios, you need to use PTIFlash ver1.04 that comes with bios 1.08. You can use this version of PTIFlash to flash even the latest version of the FastTrak bios.
I took a longer approach, though. I flashed bios 1.08 first, then after completing the mod, I flashed the latest bios. I could have saved a step if I had known the older flash utility would work with bios 1.30.
Good luck.
**Edit: I just tried, and failed, to find PTIFlash ver1.04 on the Promise web site. It is available here:
http://www.geocities.com/promise_raid/english.htm Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find it packaged with bios ver1.08.

You could use a pull down in the range of 100 to 220 Ohms, as the EEPROM is a TTL compatible device. And since it's a pull-down, you an also use an 1/8 Watt-rated resistor as well!
Happy RAIDing...
